From Three Trucks Hauling Tobacco to One of the Largest Private Trucking Companies
Founded in 1931 in Blackstone, Virginia, by Wilfred G. Epes as “The Transport Company,” Epes began with just three trucks hauling tobacco in Virginia and North Carolina. The company remained family-owned for over 55 years until it was purchased in 1987 by Epes Carriers, Inc. of Greensboro, NC, and renamed Epes Transport System. In 2018, Penske Logistics acquired Epes, bringing new resources and innovation while preserving the company's family-oriented culture.
Today, Epes Transport is one of the largest private trucking companies in the Southeast, operating a fleet of more than 1,500 power units and 7,100 trailers. With modern terminals strategically located across the Eastern U.S. and Texas, Epes provides reliable regional and long-haul dry van truckload, dedicated fleet, and drayage services. Whether you're a driver seeking steady miles, consistent home time, or a supportive work environment, Epes has a place for you.
